Another Hot One!

Yesterday was another really hot day. More pool time but before we got completely waterlogged we decided to take a break and play a boardgame. Conrad's choice was Wine-Opoly , (basically Monopoly with wine related names for everything). Phil, as the true vintner that he is, came out as the clear winner!
Wow, how about that? I figured out how to place a link in my post!

Hot, hot, hot!

Today was one of those days when we really remembered why we put in the pool. The temperature was in the 100's (Fahrenheit). On days like today there really are only one thing to do - jump in the pool!

Despite the hot temperature I got a few other things done as well. I spent a couple of ten minute periods "pretend spinning" on the beautiful Ashford spinning wheel that Allison so graciously has lent me while her house is being remodeled - Thank you Allison! I say pretend spinning because I don't actually have any  roving to spin yet, so I'm "pretend spinning" a four yard piece of scrap yarn over and over again. I do this to try and get the feel for the wheel and maybe when the roving I have ordered come sometime next week, I'll be ready to make some real knots!

I also relaxed with some knitting today (poolside while Conrad was playing in the water). I worked on the 2nd sock in an improvised pattern by me for me. I should be able to complete it sometime next week.

Beer brewing!

When I came home from my Tuesday evening knitting group this is what I found on the kitchen floor:
My children bottling beer!
Lars has had it brewing in the entry hall for some time now and decided to enlist his sister's help in the bottling process. I should add that Lars is 21, old enough to both make and legally drink beer.

Earlier in the day he told his father and me that he will graduate from UC Davis on time, that he has only three quarters left - Hurrah! He was pleasantly surprised himself, he had believed he needed an additional quarter or two to make up for the time he lost when he switched majors. However that is not the case, his academic advisor told him he is right on track to graduate with a BS in Viticulture and Enology in spring of 2010!

1st Day of School

Today was the first day as a third grader for Conrad. He was excited to be back in school, but he pretended that he was not.

Yesterday was the first day of school for Kajsa. She is now a senior in High School. It seems like only yesterday that she started Kindergarten. Time flies!

It will probably take us a week or so to get back into the school routine and fully say good-bye to summer's lazy days.

End of Summer Camping

We just got back from the Eel river, where we celebrated a friends 80th birthday. We had a lovely time playing in the river, visiting with friends and living the happy camper's life. I slept both nights outside under the stars. There is nothing quite like it, you really feel how small you are in the big scheme of things! The only downside to this trip was that a weekend is way too short and the drive way too long. We might go back up for Labor Day weekend, but we have to wait and see how the grapes are coming along. will it be harvest time or not?

1st Entry

Well here it goes...

This is my first time ever blogging, but I'm ready to give it a try.
Today will be a day of errands. I need to go to Costco to get the groceries we need for this weekend's trip to the Eel and I promised to take Conrad to the Lego store. He has saved his money since last summer and now he wants to see what he can get for it. He is hoping for some additions to his Mars Mission collection.
